“7de Laan” Abruptly Stops Filming

The cast of local soapie, “7de Laan”, has been left reeling after production unexpectedly ground to a halt with immediate effect on Sunday, 3 September.

According to reports, the cast and crew were notified in a letter via a WhatsApp message from Danie Odendaal Productions (DOP), that the show has been suspended due to the
South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) financial constraints.

Earlier this year in July, DOP announced that the beloved television series will end in December after more than 20 years on air. However, it appears that devoted fans may not get the conclusion they believe the show deserves.

“With two months’ worth of episodes left to air, the show has no more money left to produce it,” local television critic, Thinus Ferreira, said during an interview on Cape Talk radio station.

“The SABC owed production a massive amount of money for quite a while. The staff was paid at the end of August but there’s no more money left to carry on,” Ferreira added.

Actor Denver Vraagom, who played Sheldon, shared a copy of the letter the cast had received via Facebook, which bluntly stated: “You are not required to be at the production studios until further notice. Management will communicate as soon as possible when you can resume your normal duties.”
